For the first time ever, Canada will be hosting the International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP), an annual event that began in New York City in 2011. The summit has quickly emerged as one of the most important forums in the world for dialogue on education reform.
ISTP 2015 will be held in Banff, Alberta, on March 29–30, 2015, and will bring together education ministers and leaders of teachers’ unions and associations from a number of high-performing and rapidly improving education systems, according to results from OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), to discuss education policy and practice and the teaching profession. Over 450 participants are expected to attend.
"Recognising that education is the great equaliser in society, the challenge for all of us is to equip all teachers with the skills and tools they need to provide effective learning opportunities for their students."
- Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General, OECD
"The summits uniquely bring together governments and teacher unions to act on enhancing the quality of education."
- Fred van Leeuwen, General Secretary, Education International
The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), and The Learning Partnership are hosting the summit in partnership with OECD and Education International. The organizers look forward to welcoming ministers of education, teachers’ unions and associations, government officials, school administrators, and education experts to Canada.
Events before and after the summit will provide opportunities for a variety of stakeholders from the education and business sectors and the wider community to be part of the dialogue.
